Glowing

Posted by Meggan on Jan 26th 2009 in Maternity

I had the pleasure of going to Tennessee for a friends wedding and I had the chance to capture some quick shots of a dear college friend and her sweet baby girl. Have I said before that I love love love maternity pictures?! There really is such a glow about pregnant women and I love it! Thanks so much for sharing this precious time with me!! I can’t wait to meet your sweet little guy!

Glowing

Okay, and I can’t resist putting this picture up - sweet baby G. is the perfect example as to why photographers (or mommies or daddies or anyone) should say “cheese” - you might not get exactly the expression you were hoping for! LOL!

What to expect.

Posted by Meggan on Jan 21st 2009 in FAQ

Relax! This is going to be fun! As a mom and a former teacher Meggan has the ability to connect quickly with children. She will take the time to get to know you and your children to make the experience pleasant and easy for all! Please have children fed and rested (and don’t forget to make sure you’re fed too)! A full and rested child is a happy one. Meggan will generally not pose you – she wants your pictures to be a true reflection of your interaction. Enjoy playing and being silly – this will be a fun time. She will often take children aside to get individual shots. This may be a good time to have you child’s favorite toy or something sentimental that you think would work to bring out their natural expression. Don’t worry about rushing. There will be plenty of time for breaks, snacks, and clothing changes. Back to FAQ

What should I wear?

Posted by Meggan on Jan 21st 2009 in FAQ

Be comfortable. Don’t wear office clothing or anything that will make you or your children uptight.  If you want to go for a classic timeless portrait try solid colors, textures and simple outfits (denim overalls, slip dresses, etc.). Try to stay away from large logos, slogans, or distracting patterns. You are the star of the photo – not your clothes. If you’d like to go for a trendier look feel free to do that as well! You can bring several outfits for the session and we’ll see what works. Also, feel free to bring cute accessories: hats, scarves, dress-up jewelry, etc. Plan to have fun!

How do I book a session?

Posted by Meggan on Jan 21st 2009 in FAQ

Call or e-mail us to book a session: 859-881-8638 or meggan@sweetcaptures.com

Sessions typically book up to 2 weeks in advance.  Please consider scheduling your session in advance to insure availability.  When booking a session we will discuss the location. Have in mind a few of your favorite spots: a park, a garden, a local beauty spot, or even your home. Limited studio shots may be done at my home. If we get rained out we will schedule another session as soon as possible for both parties.

The session fee is $50 and is due at the time of the session. It includes time and talent of the photographer – no prints are included in the session fee.

Sessions may last up to 1.5 hours so there will be plenty of time for breaks, snacks, and clothing changes.

One week after your session 20-30 images will be available for online viewing in a password protected gallery. The online gallery will be available for ordering for 2 weeks. Once your order has been placed you can expect to receive your prints in 7-10 days. Special order items (books, albums, etc) will take longer to process.

Tips for Newborns

Posted by Meggan on Jan 21st 2009 in FAQ

The best time to take newborn pictures is within the first 2 weeks of life.  Babies have the curled look for a very short time and it is important to capture it before it’s gone! We would strongly suggest scheduling your session in advance to ensure your session and have it on the calendar before the baby’s birth as the days after delivery are hectic. If your little one arrives early or late we can push the date accordingly. Meggan will come to your home for these precious shots; Meggan’s in home studio is also available.  Bare skin is best with newborns. Meggan has studio lighting that accommodates for keeping little ones warm. Newborns can be complete docile or screamers – either way, don’t worry, we will work together to have beautiful shots!

Maternity portrait tips

Posted by Meggan on Jan 21st 2009 in FAQ

Pregnancy is such a brief and beautiful time in a woman’s life and Meggan truly loves to capture these quiet anticipatory moments. Typically maternity sessions should be scheduled near the end of the pregnancy – we recommend the 36th week. Each maternity session is different and each is based on the comfort level of the mother. You may choose to keep your belly completely clothed; in this case it is important to wear a tight fitting shirt to show off your belly. You may also feel comfortable showing your belly. If stretch marks or veins are a concern Meggan can decrease or erase their visibility on film. Feel free to bring items that you think your baby will love or items that you cherish.  Often mothers do not feel their best and do not want pictures of this time but most women look back on their pregnancy (regardless of prior feeling) as a precious time.
